Volunteer:

My name is Edon Copparini. I started with GRRMF’s community outreach and transport team back in 2007, and in 2023 I was able to step up my commitments and help even more.

My Journey:

I became aware of GRRMF back in 2007 when someone dropped off 3 neglected goldens at my house to prevent them from going to the county shelter to be euthanized. GRRMF came to the rescue, and I became a transport volunteer and volunteered alongside my own golden, Logan, to raise money for the cause. For a while, I couldn’t help due to life getting busy, but I found my way back in 2023 and I’m so thankful that I did. This work can be emotional, both smiles and tears, just knowing how many wonderful goldens have been saved and getting to be a part of that is worth it.

One story that sticks out in my memory is Sierra, a dog I drove to the vet for treatment of her glaucoma and loss of eyesight. She whined in the backseat of my car unless I had my hand touching her the entire way to and from the vet. Once we arrived at Blue Pearl and were placed in a room, I sat on the floor with her, and she snuggled up beside me while we waited for the doctor to come in. I was so touched that she was such a sweet and loving pup with someone she didn’t know, but I was also thankful that I got to be the one that was there with her, comforting her. It made me realize the importance of GRRMF’S mission. I am proud to be a small part of such a wonderful organization.

Advice for Potential Volunteers:

Open your heart and offer your time. It is worth it in so many ways and will give you moments that you will never forget.
