Why, you may wonder. Because she’s “pure Golden through and through,” in the words of her adoring and admiring foster mom who readily admits that she calls Beatrix her angel.

Golden retriever lying on its back on a wooden floor holding a plush toy in its mouth. Still thriving on her fosters’ affection and eagerly returning it in equal measure, Beatrix can often be found flopped over onto her back on the floor, all four feet in the air, waiting for the pets and belly rubs she still craves. Then there’s her unceasing fascination with toys, toys and more toys. Particularly passionate about her stuffies, she’s willing to share them provided they’re returned to her, and her two current favorites are Tony the Tiger and Lambchop.

She still cherishes the companionship of her 10-year-old doggy foster brother, Grover Cleveland, a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, gets along easily with her 12-year-old black feline foster sister, and not only loves patrolling the backyard with Grover but barking at those “pesky mutts” across the street.

Found as a stray and due to her advanced age and various health issues, Beatrix is now safe in the GRRMF Sanctuary program with her fur-ever fosters who will love and care for her for the rest of her life.

Sweeter than sweet, bubbly Beatrix has not only captured her fosters parents’ hearts, she’s particularly bonded to her doting foster dad. And, according to her adoring foster mom, she continues to be pure love! Clearly thriving on affection, Beatrix craves the constant closeness of them both, climbing into their recliners, curling up next to them for snuggles and pets, having her belly rubbed and her luxurious golden coat brushed. But the icing on the cake of sweet Beatrix’s day is when she tucks her foster dad into bed at night.

Fearless Beatrix doesn’t even mind the vacuum cleaner, while friendly Beatrix greets her fosters’ many visitors as if she’s known them all of her life. As much as she loves balls, she doesn’t fetch them or return them. Her foster mom, who never leaves Beatrix alone with a tennis ball, always puts them in a storage box in the courtyard. One day, she “forgot” where she had put them and “asked” Beatrix where they were. Bright Beatrix walked onto the courtyard behind a grill, alerted with her nose to the box, and even tried to lift the lid, which she can’t reach!

Before welcoming Beatrix into their lives, her foster mom had washed and bagged a batch of stuffies to donate to the shelter, and left it on the bedroom floor. Needless to say, Beatrix discovered it with glee, and there’s now a pile of them under the kitchen table. Every day she goes into the kitchen, picks out a new toy, and sometimes proceeds to un-stuff it.
Even-tempered and mellow, she enjoys the company of her 10-year-old doggy foster brother, Grover Cleveland, a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, and, ever curious about the resident cat, Beatrix was pleasantly surprised recently when she leaned over her perch and touched noses with her!

A hearty eater, who takes her meds without issue, Beatrix walks well on leash and to date knows such commands as “sit,” “stay” and “shake.” But since these are still early days in the fur-ever life of bright and beauteous Beatrix, the bright blue sky is, most assuredly, the limit!
