My name is Maureen Stellwag.
I am mainly a writer for the Media Team but help out with other GRRMF Teams when I can.
I have been volunteering with GRRMF for 3 Years now.
I found out about GRRMF from Katie Obringer, a dog trainer. Katie works with my own dog who is very anxious and fearful.
My love of dogs inspired me to volunteer, but my deep need for all rescue dogs to find their forever homes is what motivates my work with GRRMF. The actual number of volunteers that are needed to make that cause happen has always amazed me.
I love to see all of the rescue dogs get adopted. Especially the particular dogs I write about on the website. Even though I have not met any of these dogs, I feel like I know all about them after writing their stories and sharing it on the GRRMF website. This way people who are interested in adopting can learn more about these dogs and help them find their perfect match.
What I’ve learned is that some people have to surrender their dog for unfortunate reasons that are out of their control. It’s heartbreaking to think about what the dog may be feeling or going through. But then GRRMF steps in and the dog is immediately loved by transporters, fosters, and the rest of the volunteers at the organization. It is so amazing to see so many compassionate people involved in finding a forever family for the rescue dogs.
I think volunteers should try different opportunities at the rescue to find the one that works best for you. We appreciate all the help we can get!
