Once bashful Bridget is proof paws-itive of the power of love and perseverance!
When her forever family first brought her home, this former puppy mill dog was frightened of thresholds and going outside, and so they patiently carried her out into the backyard. She was also terrified of such sounds as the wind blowing and airplanes overhead. Gradually, and especially with the help of the family’s other dog, Abby, Bridget began to enjoy the backyard, but she remained fearful of being walked on a leash. After eight months (including working with GRRMF trainer Tiffany), not only did she feel comfortable walking on a leash, she now goes for two walks a day!
Truly a valued member of the family, Bridget loves her doggy sister Abby and is so gentle and loving with her human brother, five-year-old Andrew. Ever so proud of her, her mom admits that they’ve also learned a lot about rescuing a dog. She credits much of Bridget’s progress and confidence to Abby and because she herself is a stay-at-home mom. The family, she says, would definitely consider rescuing another dog some day.
Making up for lost time, Bridget is HAPPY and loves playing both with toys and with Abby. Genial and social, she loves people and other dogs and she craves her parents’ affection: she would be petted all day if possible! She also loves swimming in the neighbor’s pool with Abby and the family and going for rides in the car.
Bridget has several favorite toys, particularly a blue monster squeak toy, and likes taking all of her favorites back to “her” spot in the master bedroom. Her favorite activities are hunting squirrels and lizards in the backyard. The squirrels are especially active in the morning, and so just after sunrise, Bridget can be seen looking upward at the trees, observing the busy squirrels.
Every evening, before their walk, she and Abby love crossing the street with their parents to visit the neighbor’s dogs. The best part of this ritual is that the neighbor gives Bridget and Abby each a treat. Only then can they proceed on their nightly walk. And speaking of rituals … one of Bridget’s is sleeping with her head under the master bed and the rest of her body sticking out!
