Oreo was rescued by GRRMF thanks to the kind folks at the Manatee County Animal Shelter. She’s cute as a button and as sweet as her namesake! Oreo is a black and white Flat-Coated Retriever, a relative of the Golden Retriever family.
She absolutely loves belly rubs. She’s a Velcro dog and wants to be close to her people, and will follow you from room to room. Oreo really wants to be a lap dog and will attempt to sit on top of you for snuggles anytime you’re sitting on the floor.
This lovable girl is very smart and eager to please. She’s a fast learner and already knows how to sit on command and come when called. She’s completely housetrained, and will happily sleep in a crate at night.
Oreo enjoys playing with toys and prefers toys she can chew on. Although she likes to chew, she limits her chewing to bones and toys that are given to her. She likes riding and the car, and she loves going for walks. She gets very excited whenever she sees squirrels or cats. She’d like to chase them both. For that reason, she would do best in a cat-free home.
Oreo is thin and needs to gain some weight. It appears she had trouble getting enough food to eat in the past. When she first arrived in her foster home, she was a bit of a counter surfer, but her foster family reports that she’s quickly learning proper manners and rarely tries it anymore. Despite not getting enough to eat before being rescued, she isn’t aggressive with food. She loves treats and will take them from you very gently.
She’s timid around men when first being introduced, but given time she warms up to them. It’s best for men to let her come to them first so she can get to know them at her own speed, and before too long she’ll approach them seeking affection and belly rubs.
Oreo would love to find a forever home where she can soak up all the snuggles you’re willing to give! Do you have room in your heart for this sweet cookie?
