Update: November 26, 2024
Harriet’s schedule has been jammed packed over the last few months. She has been attending physical therapy to strengthen her legs and overall conditioning. Harriet has been working hard on the underwater treadmill and is now doing some laser therapy which she really enjoys. She attended the Blessing of the Animals in October and was interested in all the humans and other animals.
This sweet, lovely girl with polite social skills has become a regular member of her current dog family. She happily greets her human friends at the door when they get home or come for a visit. Her degenerative neurological condition doesn’t keep her from enjoying life and her surroundings. She has a good appetite but don’t include her with the other dogs for the fruit and veggie tray -she thinks it’s “scandalous” that a dog would even eat that!
Harriet enjoys walks, a ride in the car so she can look out the window and loves being outdoors. When this calm and pleasant girl isn’t doing those things, she is doing her home exercises or taking a nice snooze to dream about her special GRRMF family that have taken her into their home, to love and care for her in her senior years.

Move over Gordon Ramsey, Harriet’s foster is fixing up some yummy meals for this pretty girl and she is gobbling it up! Her delicate palate is being tantalized with these tasty morsels and her appetite has increased; she’s no longer the last in line when treats are being handed out!
Harriet enjoys her daily walks and has increased her pace. Her back legs are weak but she has mastered getting up on the couch, as well as, getting in and out of the car using a step. With the help of her loving foster family and with the support of GRRMF, Harriet is working hard on strength building.
Don’t over look this “peach of a girl” who is friendly to everyone she meets and enjoys the company of her canine friends. Gentle, smart and loving, Harriet would make a wonderful companion for a mature couple or someone who is home often. Older children who enjoy leisurely walks and a younger adult dog would also make nice friends for her.

This senior lady is a real trooper, fighting Lyme disease is not for sissies! Harriet is doing well with her treatments and is coming out a winner. Her appetite has increased, she’s looking healthier each day and she is able to get up and move around without as much pain and discomfort. With her continued medical treatment, examinations and loving support, Harriet will soon be able to find her forever home.
Her kind eyes makes an immediate connection with people and she is gentle and smart too! Possibly due to the Lyme disease, Harriet’s hearing is diminished but she is eagerly learning hand gestures in place of verbal commands when she is too far away to hear clearly.
Harriet was recently staying at another foster’s home while her foster family was on vacation. She adapted very well and enjoyed watching the younger dogs romp and play in the yard. Harriet is fond of belly rubs, gentle walks, being a quiet observer and lots of pets – especially under the chin! She is fine being left alone and doesn’t need to be in a crate. Harriet won’t be attached to your hip but does like being in the same room with one of her favorite humans. She isn’t fond of healthy foods, such as green beans, but cheese and whatever people are eating is very interesting to her.
This gentle and dainty lady would be idea companion for a mature couple or someone who is home often. She would enjoy older children that would like taking leisurely walks with her and a younger adult dog would also make a nice friend for her. As the song goes – – -“She’s all you’d ever want-she’s got style, she’s got grace, she’s a winner –she’s a lady.”
GRRMF is thankful for your continued support for Harriet and all our wonderful rescues!
Are you looking for a calm companion that’s only wish is to be by your side? Not looking for puppy nonsense or adolescent stages to deal with – then sweet, peaceful, delightful Harriet may be just the one for you!
Harriet is a lovable senior girl who is great with other dogs, adults, children and respects cats and other animals. Although she has some difficulty walking and getting up, it doesn’t stop her from enjoying her strolls around the neighborhood with her foster family.
Harriet didn’t have much of an appetite when she first arrived at her foster home but with tender loving care and persistence her foster mom found a food that she is now enjoying. This lovely lady would like nothing better than to find a home with a person or family that is home often and would love a companion that will lay by their feet and enjoy snuggles and affection from her. She’s a confident girl that is good in the car and enjoys being touched and petted.
Her dreams can’t come true just yet as she was found to be positive for Lyme disease, a dangerous infection caused by the bite of an infected tick. Symptoms include lack of appetite, joint pain or stiffness as well as other general pain and discomfort. Click here to learn more about Lyme disease in dogs.
Harriet will be well taken care of by GRRMF with appropriate medications and monitoring. Your generous donations continue to help us support wonderful dogs like Harriet. When she is feeling better, her new family might just need to make dentist appointments more often – as she is just too sweet to describe!
