Brody is the personification of a loving people pup!
Brody and Mary visit schools, assisted living facilities and seniors’ homes. Brody, who loves meeting people of all ages, happily goes from person to person in a group setting and lies quietly listening to children read. Mary especially enjoys reading with pre-school and elementary school students, loves seeing the gains they make, and encouraging a lifelong enjoyment of reading in them.
The team’s most memorable experience was visiting a woman in hospice care. Although she didn’t come into the community room to see the dogs, her nurse asked them to visit her, and their escort had Mary take Brody to her bedside. He gently laid his head on the bed beside her hand and she lit up. She then sat up and after loving on Brody, asked to be helped so that she could go out to visit the other dogs. It was so very touching to bring her such joy in the final days of her life.
In his leisure time, Brody loves being outdoors, hiking on mountain trails during the family’s summers in NC, and playing and wrestling all day with his fur brother Benson, a GRRMF rescue.
While Brody doesn’t actually swim in the pool, he loves splashing and playing in the shallow area. In his excitement to go outside, he always grabs a toy to take with him. Unfortunately, stray socks and hand towels are some of his favorite “toys.”
Brody has a special Therapy friend who loves Labs — the resource officer at Meadowlane Elementary School. He and Brody light up the moment they see each other, and Brody happily leans into the pats and pets he receives.
Mary eagerly admits that she would now like to do individual hospice visits with Brody.
