Look who is turning two!

In mid-October, I (GRRMF Brutus Archie #3405) realized that the group of English Cream Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees Pups whom I have followed every step of their way, were going to be celebrating their second birthday and entry into their teenage years – this Thanksgiving!  I thought it might be fun to reach out to them and find out just what they were up to these days!  Of course, I reached out to their Sweet Mom Mia (formerly Mariah Nina #3470) for her reflections as well, since she gave birth to this most special group of big and fluffy fur balls!  I was delighted to hear from each and every one of them and wanted to share with all of our readers, their fans, their adoptive families and Mama Mia just how fabulous these girls and boys have turned out to be!  (Special thanks to Callie’s Mom, Pam for the inspiration!)

Here are fun two year old teenage tidbits about each one and of course Mom Mia!  These are shared in their own words!  How fun!

Graycie (Lane Nina 3476)

“My sister says I am small horse, a couch potato, an attention seeker, a sleepy teenager, and most importantly a big bundle of joy. I love sticks, the larger the better! I have balls and tug toys but I love to tear apart cardboard boxes most of all!  Did someone say field trip?  I’m on it – Let’s go! I really like routines and my favorite is the bedtime routine with the girls to say prayers and put them to bed”.

Tacoma (Elle Nina 3475)

“My parents own Thoroughbred Race horses, and in the summer, I travel with them all the way to Saratoga, New York to watch the races.  I get to go to the horse barns early in the morning to watch all the horses work
out on the track.  I have learned to be very quiet around the horses and people love to come over and pet me. I only have a few brown spots and people always ask my parents what breed I am – well I’m the Cute Big White Fluffy Breed of course!”

Bailey (Renegade Nina 3477)

“When I meet a child, I’m always very calm and let them pet me. I am a fun-loving gal and I learned to swim when I was a puppy, so I really enjoy it! I like to jump into the pool before anyone can stop me.  When I leap into the pool, I look like a polar bear. I like to eat anything almost everything, especially cake, chicken and steaks, that I steal from the counter!  I’m so tall I can reach everything!  I also love to steal new sod from the dog park and run around with it. Everyone laughs and thinks I’m funny.”

Lilly Nina 3479

“I love to nap on the fireplace hearth! My special treat is when Mom takes just me for a walk and I get to sniff to my heart’s content!  I live for weekends because those are the days when my Dad takes me, my brother and sister with him do some errands.  We go to the donut store, the bank and the gas station (he gives us treats while the tank is filling).  Then he takes us for a ride around the pond and by the farms where we look for horses, sheep and turkeys!”

Samson (Bentley Nat 3480)

“My special toy is the one that I got from my foster family when I was a puppy.  I still cherish it! I suppose one of my favorite activities is sleeping, most of the time on the cold hard tile of the bathroom.  It keeps me cool since I am a very big boy (which is why parents renamed me Samson –  from Samson and Goliath.)  My parents love to watch me lumber through the grass in the backyard with my energetic Labrador brother.  But I know there is no way I can keep up with him so when I have had enough, I just plop down in the grass and tell my brother to ‘Rock on’!”

Callie (Calle Nina 3474)

“I love to go for car rides especially if I get to go to the hardware store (they give me biscuits and think I am beautiful).   Mom says I am extremely smart but extremely stubborn.   She says she can see my mind working to decide if I want to comply with her requests.  I do most of the time but sometimes I just don’t feel like behaving.  I have chewed up 6 pairs of my Moms reading glasses and a brand new shoe, but only when she was ignoring me.   I steal Mom’s wash cloth out of her shower (she finds it on her bed) and steal stuff off her bathroom counter.  One time Mom seemed to really panic when I swallowed something I shouldn’t have, but no worries I ‘downloaded’ the whole thing the next day and all was well.  I think I should stick to my favorite treats like duck biscuits and green beans.”

Sophie (Shiro Nina 3478)

“For some reason, I don’t understand why people wear baseball hats.  If you are wearing a hat I’ll bark, if not, I’ll just stare you down. Whenever I get a tasty treat, I have to pace around the kitchen at least ten times before I settle down to eat it.  I am a connoisseur of many fine delicacies, and rarely discriminate on what goes in my mouth.  However, sometimes my mom gives me the veggies out of the pot after she makes chicken stock…yum! I don’t mind getting my pretty paws wet, but I’m still not a big fan of going all the way in the water.  My very best friend in life is my six-year old boy.”

Sefton Nat 3482

“You might remember reading about me!  I’m the one pup who needed knee surgery!  Guess what? I am doing just great and hardly remember any of that stuff.  But the best part is, I was adopted by the family who adopted my brother Bodhi.  Yup that’s right we live together forever!  I love my cuddles in the morning and I will paw my “peeps” until I get them. I also love to plop right in anyone’s lap!  Who cares if I am a big boy?  I enjoy going to street fairs and art festivals with Bro’ Bodhi – you can imagine what a stir we create when we are out together.  Everyone wants to pet us because we are so big and handsome and of course we love it!”

Bodhi (Murphy Nat 3481)

“I get to go to work with my Mom in the afternoons and have her all to myself.  My brother Sefton goes with her in the morning.  I miss him, but it gives each of us a little “me time” with her. But when we’re home together, we are rarely in separate rooms and we always need to be in view of each other.  Just like any pair of siblings, if one of us is getting love the other comes over and squeezes in to get some too. I love treats so I am always finding crumbs that Sefton leaves behind and scooping them up!  We play chase in the backyard which my family has named the race track.  I’m usually in the lead but my ‘Bro Sefton” is always on my tail.  After bath time we each have a tee shirt that we wear in the house until we’re completely dry. We’ve got so much hair that it takes a couple hours for us to get dry, so our shirts help Mom keep our house dry.”

Mia (Mariah Nina 3470)

“I sleep on my side and when my Mom is not home, there is a nice comfy bed in the second bedroom and I also like to lay on the cool tile in our home. I’m not a big barker unless there is something unusual in the middle of the night.  Sometimes it’s people out at odd hours and it is okay, but I am protective and want to make sure.  Mom says it’s strange that I don’t bark when the doorbell rings but that’s because I get excited and just wag my tail – because fun people come over when the doorbell rings!  I’m very proud of my ability to be able to let my Mom know that her asthma is flaring up before she knows it – by sniffing her upper body.  I rarely do a circle dance or pace.  People say I am very chill and relaxed, whatever that means!  I’m a landlubber and don’t really like baths either.  I love to watch the water when we go for walks by the beach, but I don’t like my beautiful fur to get all wet!  I must admit that I do a few shenanigans myself – I will counter surf looking only for bread – because it’s just so yummy!

My trademark is that I shake hands with everyone I meet. Sharing my paw is what I am well known for in the neighborhood.  I often wonder if my sons and daughters do that too.  I’m looking forward to hearing their stories.  Since they are going to be teenagers soon, I am sure they have plenty of tales to share!  I send them all my love and wish them a very Happy Birthday!  Finally – a “Paw Up With Kisses” to all of you who have given them everything my puppies could wish for – it was my dream for each and every one of them to find a ‘fur”ever home filled with love. Thank you for making my Mama Mia dreams come true!”
