GRRMF COVID- 19 Rescue News

Update: December 30, 2020

As we all look forward to the new year, and the celebration of our 30th year in rescue, we remain open and hopeful for all retrievers who need us to find our loving rescue to help save, protect and rehome them.  Our approved adopter list has grown through the months and they are anxiously waiting for their match to provide an awesome home quickly.   Our in-home visits and community events and reunions are still on hold with no known resumption dates in 2021.

Wishing you blessings of health and joy in the new year.

Update: November 6, 2020

Our status remains the same. We are open to help retrievers in need, have a waiting list of approved adopters who can accept dogs into loving forever homes quickly and continue to see a the trend of less dogs received this year than any other in our almost 30 years in rescue.

Any questions can be directed to info@grrmf.org.

Stay well.

Update October 1, 2020

Our rescue has remained open throughout the pandemic and has been available to support families who need help to rehome dogs in need. As we continue to focus on the dogs who need us,  we also continue to process an unprecedented amount of requests for adoption and currently have a waiting list of over 100 approved families waiting for their match. We also have seen a decrease in the amount of dogs coming into our rescue over the summer which makes the wait time for these patient families even longer.  Our estimate for wait times based on the current trend could be a year or more.

We don’t know what the future holds.  We want everyone who has to make heartbreaking decisions for their family to rehome their beloved golden to know we are here to help them and blessed with so many loving approved adopters  who are at the ready to help too.

Thank you for supporting our goldens and rescue during these difficult times for all.

Stay well.

Update: July 12, 2020

We are proud to remain open supporting our communities to provide our rescue services throughout mid-Florida. We are continuing to monitor the CDC guidelines and the current spike trending in Florida which suspends our in home visits looking for a best time to resume this service for the safety of our volunteers and applicants.

We will be resuming accepting new applications on July 15th.

Thank you for your support of GRRMF as we navigate these uncharted times.

Stay well.

Update: June 23, 2020

We are in the final planning stages to resume accepting new applications for fostering or adopting in the next few weeks.  Additionally we estimate a mid-July resumption of our in-home visits following the CDC guidelines for all or volunteers and applicants.  All of our other rescue services have remained and continue to remain open to servicing our Mid-Florida goldens and people in need.

We continue to monitor the CDC guide lines for their safety recommendations for the needs of our dogs, rescue and the communities we serve. We look forward to the day we can resume our full application processing again.

Update: June 4, 2020

During these difficult times we remain committed to rescuing goldens and golden blends in need and providing them with a secure foster home and the medical care they may require. Several of the goldens currently in our foster program have expensive medical needs that we and our wonderful vets are tending to through this pandemic period.  We continue to accept dogs into our program as owners contact us for help. We also ensure as dogs become eligible for adoption to a matched approved adopter on our waiting list, all parties adhere to the CDC safety protocols to bring our dog and families together for a joyful meet and greet and adoption day. Our Sanctuary dogs are tucked safely in their homes receiving the on-going care our Sanctuary program provides to them.  Our rescue remains open to the dogs and families who need our rescue’s support.

In our adoption application process, we were blessed to have a large number of approved adopters on our waiting list to adopt a golden prior to the pandemic. During the months of March and April, we received an unprecedented amount of applications many of which are currently on hold pending resumption of our home visit process. This process will be resumed when the communities we serve are fully open with the guidance of the CDC and our focus will remain on ensuring the safety of our applicants and volunteers involved in the process. Additionally between our approved adopters waiting list prior to the pandemic, the volume of adoption applications received in March and April and the average amount of rescue dogs we are receiving, under current conditions we estimate the wait time for a dog from our rescue could be 1 year or more at this time.

Due to the above, as of May 4, 2020, we stopped accepting new applications. We regret having to close this one door for the short term this summer.  If you want to seek out adoption at this time, please reach out to shelters or rescues in your area to be that special family who saves the life of a wonderful dog.

We continue to monitor the CDC guide lines for their safety recommendations for the needs of our dogs, rescue and the communities we serve. We look forward to the day we can resume our full application processing again.

Wishing everyone health and better days ahead for all. Stay safe.
