Three of our GRRMF Hearts of Gold Therapy dogs are among the 51 dogs nominated nationwide for the First Responder Paws Therapy Dog Award based on their outstanding service in the area of support to first responders in need. This award is for therapy dogs who assist with their mental health awareness and well being.

Madison loves visiting frontline workers at area hospitals in Central Florida. She was rescued at the age of three and is a self-appointed guide dog for her fur sibling Rocky who is sight impaired. She can sense when someone is having a difficult day and will place her head on their knee or linger longer with them until they’re they’ve relaxed. Madison is a certified therapy dog through the GRRMF Hearts of Gold therapy program. (Handler Ginger Vincent)
Benny has an angelic presence and recently joined the GRRMF Hearts of Gold therapy dog program for Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida. He provides support to hospital families and staff. Benny belongs to a long time veteran of the US Air Force and reserves who says if it wasn’t for Benny I would not be here. (Handler Melissa King)
Sparty as a certified therapy dog provides emotional support and a comforting presence at hospitals, nursing homes and libraries in Florida. Sparty helped to save the life of his handler a retired police officer of 30 years when his handler lost a large quantity of blood at home and required emergency care. (Handler John Wilk)
