GGolden retriever lying on a rug indoors with a chew toy between its front paws, looking toward the camera.Jax is a chill senior statesman who takes life exactly as it comes. He is unbothered, unhurried, and completely unflappable. In his foster home with two large dogs, he’s content to simply observe the action rather than join in.  Jax will bark at the cat in the home, but when the dog-savvy feline confidently strolls past, he lets it go. A more skittish cat might spark his curiosity, so he would do best in a home with a confident kitty roommate.

Jax truly loves people. He’ll gently nudge your hand or tap you with his paw which is his polite way of requesting pets and belly rubs. He enjoys snuggles but isn’t a Velcro dog. He’s perfectly happy curling up on his dog bed while you relax nearby. He enjoys spending time together but not being overly clingy.

When he first arrived at his foster home, Jax was overdue for some much needed grooming. He sat patiently for brushing and even tolerated a full blowout with the grooming dryer. His calm, steady temperament shines through in everything he does.

Golden retriever standing on a rug indoors, tilting its head slightly while looking up at the camera.Jax is a big guy who is committed to reclaiming his boyish figure. He’s already walking one mile twice a day and following a low-calorie diet like a champ. He does best in a home with area rugs or carpet to help him get his footing when standing. While he’s happy to stretch out across the backseat for car rides, hopping in and out can be a bit of a challenge due to his size.

What Jax needs now is a family who sees the beauty in a slower pace. A family committed to helping him stay active, supporting his health goals, and giving him the steady love he so happily returns.

If you’re looking for a friendly, low-key companion with impeccable manners, Jax is your guy.

Jax’s adoption cost is $550 which helps defray the average $2000 expense per dog in our rescue. Click here to learn about our adoption process.
