Charlie – ATD handler Martie
Charlie was surrendered in 2013 at age 7 when his elderly owner, whom he was trained to assist, died and the family could not care for a dog. When he arrived in rescue GRRMF quickly noticed how special this boy was in his gentle behavior and loving personality. Charlie was matched to his forever family who were patiently waiting for a boy like him. Martie and Dean, who are long time volunteers for GRRMF, have continued his training and enjoy watching him do his magic as a certified therapy dog. You may have met Charlie and his parents at one of our Central Florida events as he is an ambassador for GRRMF.
Charlie is very proactive within his community and has an amazing resume. He is a member of the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando Therapy Team, Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) and R.E.A.D Program, earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen and has received training in Medical Alert Service Dog and Scent Work. Charlie has provided treasured memories for all who have met him during his visits at VA Medical Center, Westminster Towers, Emeritus Assisted Living at Tuskawilla, Ronald McDonald House and Orlando Health and Rehabilitation Center. Children were delighted when he visited their schools for the Wagging Tales programs and participated in summer camp activities. As a therapy dog team, Charlie and Martie have attended special events for Blue Cross Hurricane Preparedness, Disney Earth Day, FurBall and Valencia College.
