Giving Tuesday – Help us, Help them!

Giving Tuesday – Help us, Help them!

Giving Tuesday highlights that special time during the holiday season which instills hope in the future for our dogs to continue to receive medical care, love and kindness to restore their health and happiness.

We want to share two special stories of how your generous donations have helped two of the 3871 dogs who have passed through the doors of GRRMF and were matched with wonderful forever families.

Please help us continue the mission of GRRMF to save, protect and rehome dogs like Misty and  Lawrence arriving in 2021; our 30th rescue year anniversary.  Any donation you make using the donate button below will be matched up to $10,000 on Giving Tuesday.

Thank you for your support.

Sweet Misty

On February 28th, Misty arrived at her first foster home with a happy smile and a wagging tail. This delightful golden adjusted quickly to her new surroundings and was the ” hostess with the mostest” when her foster family had guests for dinner the second night of her stay.

Misty is also quite a detective and enjoys making a careful analysis of all the DNA along her daily walks.  Her foster mom states “ . . she loves to sniff – – everything!  A 10 minute walk easily expands to 20-30 minutes so that she can explore. She is teaching me to “smell the roses,” rather than rushing.

Misty came to GRRMF because her family was moving out of the country and could no longer care for her.  During her initial medical examination there were some concerns about her health and it was decided that some additional testing would be necessary.

Sadly, Misty has been diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer.  She will continue to be monitored by the specialists at Tampa Bay Veterinarian Services every three months,  Misty is in our Sanctuary program and is with a loving family who will care for her every need with kindness and love.

GRRMF sanctuary dogs live the rest of their days with a permanent GRRMF foster family who make every day count, showered with love and GRRMF provides any necessary medical care based on their dog’s needs. Wonderful dogs, like Misty, would not have options for comfort and quality for the rest of her life without our intervention.

Lucky Lawrence

If ever there could be a heart that needed healing and a body that needed tender loving care it was Lawrence!  You may recall that this kind and sweet gentleman came to GRRMF when a good samaritan found him on the side of the road, very thin and tired but with a light in his eyes.

This dear fellow of skin and bones weighed 79 pounds when he was rescued. Lawrence clearly needed a lot of medical care and treatment. Hip surgery was first on the list to repair

We are thrilled to report he is now a healthy 95 pounds, thanks to the help of all the medical professionals and his foster family’s love and care. He has been fed a nutritious diet and has slowly built back his strength with good lovin’ and exercise. His coat is thick and shiny and he is a looker! Through it all he, has kept that wonderful twinkle in his eye and is still his sweet and most endearing self!

When he first arrived, Lawrence found it a bit awkward to sort through the extensive toy box so he made a plan. He scattered them all over the house and reorganized the toy locations for his foster mom.  If he wasn’t so darn cute carrying his toys around, he probably wouldn’t have gotten away with his redecorating scheme…not to mention, eyes that just melt hearts.  He loved his foster brother and sharing toys is just natural for him.

Our handsome, lovable, and gallant knight, Sir Lawrence found his forever family in June.  What a beautiful and gentle giant, he has turned out to be!  He is truly grateful and feels so lucky for all the help, support and love he garnered from so many wonderful people, who have helped him along his rescue journey.
