My Journey:
When my family lost our German Shepard and started looking for a new family member, we found GRRMF and adopted two beautiful boys – Marly and Buddy. After this, we decided to become a foster family for pups awaiting adoption, with many successfully adopted – Bear, Nicholas, Tucker, and Princess to name a few. As time went on and our health declined, we could no longer act as a foster home, and so I moved into other fields of volunteer work.
Over the course of my volunteer work, I’ve been blessed to have met so many wonderful and caring people at GRRMF and done a variety of jobs – home visits, dog biographies, and our newsletter. Right now, I coordinate our success story Sunday stories and Golden Hearts media team. My favorite parts of volunteering were taking my furry friend to see the patients at Advent Hospital for pet therapy and seeing the smiles of families who have adopted through GRRMF.
Advice for Potential Volunteers:
Try an area and see if it feels like your place. If not, try volunteering in another area until you find the right fit. Don’t be afraid to say you’d like to do something different.
