Area description:
GRRMF TO THE RESCUE – TEAM INTAKE
Many of our volunteers are visible to our supporters.  Most work tirelessly behind the scenes. Our rescue roadmap begins with a surrendering owner and their golden as our first point of contact.

A message or call comes in to our hotline, email or through our website page. A dog needs our help. Our intake team guides the surrendering owner to complete our required intake form which tells us about the dog and the care they require. So many times, it is heartbreaking for the owner who needs to move, is going through a family crisis, or can no longer afford to care for their dog. When we review the form, our intake volunteer communicates with the surrendering owner to ensure we understand all the details shared with us and to maintain the confidentiality needed to protect both the dog and the family. The important next step is to determine if we can meet the needs of the dog … do we have the appropriate and available foster home, medical treatments and behavioral/training skills are a few of the critical considerations we review to ensure we can help. There are times we cannot meet the dogs needs and we work with the owner to network to other rescues or services for assistance. Our intake volunteers also monitor the shelter lists, social media and Craigslist looking for goldens or blends who are posted for sale or adoption. When our intake team approves the dog they have a broad reach in rescue from a board member’s review, medical and behavioral team assessment, foster team and transportation team for transporting from the owner to our intake vet location.  All working together to ensure our new arrival comes safely into rescue.

Once a dog is in our care, they begin their journey through GRRMF. It’s always love at first sight as these precious arrivals need our help. There is a nose to tail medical exam upon arrival by our treasured vets who always partner with us in developing the necessary care plan. We work with each dog to provide what they need for placement in a loving forever home…whether it’s extensive training, medical treatments which can include surgery, or simple kindness to give them reassurance in their foster home surroundings.

Each day we celebrate what we do and how we help our Mid-Florida community. Our teams are incredible and our intake team has a difficult task of ensuring we are the best rescue for a retriever in need. It takes a village and our intake team is the critical front door to a happy new life.
