Chipper & Rusty’s Success Story

Chipper & Rusty’s Success Story

What could be more gloriously golden than one forever love? Two!

Chipper and Rusty’s loving mom readily admits that the family’s happiest memory of adoption day was knowing they were giving the bonded brothers a happy, safe and loving home.

What both brothers want most is to be around their family and each other all of the time. Rusty, so sociable and so strong, loves trying to get in his parents’ laps, never realizing his size or his weight on them. Highly intelligent, he knows what his parents are saying even when they don’t want him to, does flips when it’s feeding time, and makes them smile every day. Sweet, intuitive and sensitive, he gives them comfort if he senses they’re either stressed or sick.

Chipper, so sweet and so gentle, is also the consummate cuddler who loves sleeping between his parents in bed at night. He also loves leaning in for hugs on the couch, climbing in his parents’ laps, all 75 pounds of him, and lying contentedly at their feet. Their “happy boy,” he’s always smiling, his tail is always wagging, and if they’re not paying attention, they’ll surely get tapped with a paw or two!

Both Rusty and Chipper love their morning walks with their parents. They also love chasing squirrels at sunrise and playing ball. Chipper, who especially enjoys car and truck rides, has a favorite toy, a stuffed reindeer, that he received at Christmas. He always retrieves it and brings it to his parents when they come home, and then takes it to bed with him every night.

The brothers have already been on their parents’ boat several times. While they were nervous and hesitant at first, once the boat got underway they truly enjoyed it. Now “seasoned sailors,” they love standing on the bow, letting their ears flap in the wind, feeling the wind in their faces, and watching the fish and dolphins swim and jump. Their parents, however, are presently working on getting them both into the water and swimming.

On a recent visit to Fort De Soto, their parents walked Rusty and Chipper around the fort, and although neither of them was ready for the off-leash dog beach, they took full advantage of the giant dog park nearby, and raced ecstatically about. Most recently, the brothers completed Basic Obedience on Leash Training, where they learned and mastered such commands as “come,” “sit,” “stay,” “lie down,” “climb,” “heel” and “leave it.”

In the words of a mom who’s been doubly blessed, “We’re so thrilled that we were able to rescue Chipper and Rusty. They’re such wonderful additions to our family. We love them as much as they love us, and they’ve brought us so much joy!”
