There’s something quite magical about Mike!
Mike and Marianne love visiting the library because Mike is so gentle that even kids who are unsure of dogs love him! The team also enjoys attending special events where therapy dogs can give comfort and spending time at the Nemours Ronald McDonald house and at Give Kids the World.
Marianne is moved by how much joy Mike brings to children on the spectrum. His calm demeanor makes him extremely approachable, and to see the children’s parents’ deep appreciation is especially heartwarming to her.
At home, Mike is reportedly BALL crazy! He’s a different dog when it’s time to play fetch. He not only loves fetch, he loves learning tricks, and is quick to catch on. Marianne has taught him to drop the ball right at her feet. When it’s off to the side, she says “closer” and he pounces on the ball, then drops it right between her feet!
Marianne recalls one particularly tender moment involving a young boy who was petting Mike for a long time at the library. After awhile he told her about his grandmother’s dog. Before they left, the boy’s father came over and said that his son rarely speaks to strangers. Mike was clearly “the bridge” allowing him to feel comfortable.
Now Mike and Marianne are looking forward to more visits and more events that educate more people about the important work done by therapy dogs.
