Dakota arrived at GRRMF after a good Samaritan found her and turned her over to the rescue. Dakota is a Flat-Coated Retriever – another branch of our beloved Retriever family. She has a gorgeous glossy black coat and beautiful brown eyes you won’t be able to resist!
On her first day in her new foster home, she took time to sniff and explore the house and the yard. She was a bit timid outside at first and decided being inside and enjoying the air conditioning was more fun, but she has gotten much more comfortable with her new environment and has become more playful as she settles in. Now she likes to lay in the grass or peek through the fence to people-watch. She gets along well with her foster brother and doesn’t chase the squirrels and lizards in the yard.
Dakota’s favorite toy is the rope. She loves to fetch it! She also likes to go for rides in the car with you and will jump right in when you open the door. She enjoys going for walks and having the chance to sniff her way around the neighborhood. She got a little bit jumpy with the cars passing by on a busy street but otherwise does well on walks.
She loves getting belly rubs and affection! If you stop petting her before she’s ready, she’ll gently tap you with her paw to let you know she’d like some more! She likes to follow you around most of the time, but she doesn’t mind being left alone in a room. She gets nervous sometimes around older men who are unfamiliar to her.
She arrived at the rescue with an ear infection, which is being resolved with a treatment of medicated ear drops. She isn’t too excited about getting the ear drops, so when she sees her foster mom coming with the bottle, she’ll hide her face under the cushions and cover her face with her paws in an adorably cute way.
Dakota is an incredibly sweet dog with a lovable playful side that will bring a smile to her new forever family. Do you have room in your home and heart for this beautiful girl?
