August 15th – National Check Your Chip Day

National Check the Chip Day is celebrated on August 15^th, a day dedicated to reminding pet owners to ensure their pets’ microchips are registered and the contact information associated with the chip is up-to-date.

Statistics show that one in three pets will become lost at some point during their lives, but cats and dogs with registered microchips are much more likely to experience a happy reunion with their loving families. This simple step significantly increases the likelihood of reuniting lost pets with their families, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Why is it important?

• Microchips are a crucial tool for reuniting lost pets with their owners, peace of mind and avoiding the heartbreak of losing ones pet.
• Microchips are only effective if the contact information is current. Moving, changing phone numbers, or switching email addresses can make a microchip useless if the information isn’t updated.

GRRMF microchips all dogs who come into our rescue and also ensures that GRRMF is listed as first contact, it will remain that way, even after adoption. We add the adopter’s contact info as a second contact as part of our post adoption process.
