Sherry was a compassionate, dedicated volunteer who always said yes when asked to foster a dog, especially a Sanctuary dog. She made sure they had all the love and care they needed, giving them the best life possible.
In Sherry’s own words, “I’ve adopted several dogs through GRRMF and each foster parent I’ve worked with has been wonderful, going above and beyond any expectations. Seeing their devotion to fostering inspired me so when I retired and the time was right in my life, I became a foster. It’s my passion now.
I request to foster seniors and Sanctuary dogs specifically. I know their time with me isn’t always long, so I want to make sure they receive the highest quality of life. My own dogs welcome them and help heal them in a way only another dog can. When I see the excitement on the face of an adopting family, my heart is full. I am so grateful to GRRMF for trusting me to care for these precious dogs.”
We lost Sherry suddenly in July 2025 and miss her greatly. Several of her friends wanted to share a special memory of Sherry.
From Carol. “I will always be so thankful Sherry chose us in 2014 to support her unconditional volunteer commitment of love and care of every dog she fostered or called to check up on in her post adoption support calls. My favorite ‘tail’ was in 2021 when her foster/adopted dog Angel, escaped from the yard (or so she thought) and she was frantic. We kicked into high gear with alerting the microchip company, lost dog alerts and posting on our FB page and lined up a volunteer to do a drone search. Happily, we received an update the next morning that Angel was home. Sherry suspected she was hiding under the backyard shed even though they looked there with a flashlight. Sure enough, rinse and repeat, Sherry watched her sneak under the shed again the next day. Sherry immediately called the handyman to fix this secret hiding place for Angel’s safety and special treats were plenty for Angel to compensate for Mom’s timely action.”
From Bert. “She had the kindest heart of anyone I ever knew. Aside from the care she gave every dog it was not at all unusual to get a call or a text from Sherry just saying hello and that she was wishing you a blessed day. She had patience and grace. Never an unkind word.”
From Ellen. “One dog, Shake, stole my heart. I thought he was the cutest, elderly gentleman with the look of a fuzzy polar bear. Before he was placed in Sanctuary, I was seriously thinking of adopting him. When I found out Sherry and her husband were going to keep him, I was so happy and relieved that he would be staying in their loving home with Angel and Macie Rose, their Shih Tzu blend. Sherry always kept a candle lit for 30 days near a picture of her precious GRRMF babies that had crossed the bridge.”
From Stacy. “From the moment I heard her kind and warm voice on the phone and she shared stories about her current dogs, I knew she was someone special. I matched her with Silas, who proved to be a bit more challenging than I had thought. She said Silas had chewed all around her front door. She just took in stride and said I’ll do whatever is needed to help Silas. That was Sherry’s main focus. Over the years I would check in with her when she wasn’t fostering one of our sweet pups just to see how she was doing. She was one of my favorite humans to talk with.”
