Tenderhearted Trooper takes loving to a whole new level.
Team Trooper and Meg take an active part in the Flagler Public Library Paws to Read program and pay compassionate visits to daycare centers and Assisted Living and Memory Care facilities.
Meg admits that they both enjoy them all equally. Trooper loves the attention he receives from everyone –young and old — and Meg loves sharing him with others to brighten their days. Because her mother died from Alzheimer’s disease, bringing smiles to patients in memory care holds a special place in her heart. Quite naturally then, her favorite times revolve around Memory Care at Tuscan Gardens, where the patients light up, and Trooper acts as if he’s been doing this his entire life.
During their evening walk through the neighborhood, Trooper stops at every house where someone has come out to pet him — even if it was just one time — in case they’re home and will come out again! He particularly likes walking on the beach, lapping up the attention of every person they meet. At home, he loves the family cats, “snuffles” them all over and lets them play in his hair as much as he loves putting his head on his mom’s lap and getting hugs.
Meg, whose family adopted Trooper, once a sick and straggly stray, from Flagler Humane Society, hopes that she and Trooper aren’t just spreading smiles, they’re also spreading a message about the life-saving, life-affirming importance of animal rescue – for animals and people alike.
