When Nancy and Walter adopted Ellie Mae, this rescue pup was simply overjoyed. Before getting in the car to drive to her forever home, Ellie Mae jumped in the air and spun in circles. A truly heartwarming moment for the three of them.
However, like many rescue pups (and many of us!), Ellie Mae initially came with some baggage that required some extra patience and love from Nancy and Walter. Nancy notes that Ellie Mae, who may have been mistreated at her previous home, did not like other animals. Ellie Mae was also skittish about having her back end touched. But now, with her loving and supportive parents, Ellie Mae has been able to become the wonderful golden pup she was always meant to be.
One of the most endearing personality traits of most goldens is their empathy. Nancy notes that Ellie Mae is one of the most empathetic animals she’s ever had and especially sensitive to any pain or fear. For Nancy, this was so appreciated when she dealt with a devastating personal loss a few months after adopting Ellie Mae. While on the phone talking with her daughter explaining what happened, Nancy naturally choked up and began to cry. Ellie Mae immediately settled in Nancy’s lap and nuzzled Nancy with her nose. The comfort and love that rescue pups like Ellie Mae can provide is truly immeasurable.
Today, life is good for Ellie Mae and her parents. Ellie Mae is a happy pup who now also enjoys time with her new best friend Lily, including sleepovers where they wake up cuddling one another. And for Nancy and Walter, Ellie Mae is firmly embedded in their hearts.
