Tribute to Dante Adrian (September 12, 2010 – January 13, 2025) (14 years 4 months)
Dante Adrian, golden tail wagging, entered our lives, all sunshine and energy. We knew that, whatever time we had together would be filled with JOY – and it was! Our hearts were full and we were graced with his love. He was a real treasure who is so greatly missed. Two months was just not long enough for us. We wanted more time with him, but time was not on our side. Dearest Dante was ready to get his wings and fly. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge with us by his side telling him we loved him, that he was safe and that we would see him again.
We called him Major Dante. He began each day eager to go outside, running through the yard and performing those awesome golden rolls in the grass then coming in for his breakfast. He loved greeting everyone who entered our home since he knew they had come to play fetch with him (he LOVED playing fetch and had stashed a good supply of hard rubber balls throughout the house). He also loved having his belly rubbed and was so excited to garner all of their attention.
He tolerated his two fur sisters, Macie Rose and Willow Joy, and was always a gentleman except when it came to sharing the stuffed toys he claimed as his — until he had torn them up and strewn their stuffing everywhere. For Christmas, Santa brought him supposedly indestructible stuffed toys. Needless to say, they weren’t! But he was so happy to have some new toys that it was worth it just to watch the fun he had pulling out their stuffing and strewing the pieces everywhere.
The first time my five-year-old granddaughter met Dante, she said, “Oh, look, Grandma, he has a beautiful heart on his face.” All the grandchildren loved him and he loved them. They were always ready to play his favorite game of fetch.
Every night after “nite-nite” treats were given and before the lights were turned off, I would kiss Dante good night, tell him I loved him and that I would see him in the morning.
I wish I’d had more time to love on Dante … to create more memories … to share more cuddles and more play time … to watch his golden rolls … to see his happy, wagging tail and feel the special way he nudged me to let me know it was dinnertime.
Dante crossed the Rainbow Bridge on January 13, 2025 cuddling with his favorite elephant toy (one he did not destroy but liked to carry around in his mouth). I imagine him running free in fields of green grass and enjoying his golden rolls while wagging his tail, ready to play ball.
We are forever grateful for the time we did have and for the memories we, as a family, were able to create with him. We were so blessed by his presence in our lives. So, goodnight Dante, I love you. I will see you in the morning — one day soon.
Blessings from your family, Sherry, Macie Rose and Willow Joy.
