Many people ask us about making bequests in their wills or provide something in their living trust for Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization.

Regardless of whether you want to include GRRMF in your will, we urge you to consider your pets. Remember: in the eyes of the law, pets are property. Have you dealt with them in your will? Where will they be placed if something happens to you? Don’t let your beloved family pet end up in a shelter or euthanized because you neglected to indicate your preferences in your will.

Did you adopt your golden retriever from GRRMF?

If so, you signed an adoption contract that says the dog must be returned to GRRMF if you are no longer able to keep him or her, or if something happens to you. This means that GRRMF will take the dog back into our program, no matter how long ago you adopted or how old your dog is. You can rest easy knowing that whoever adopts your beloved golden will have to follow the same stringent adoption screening process that you went through – this is for your dog’s protection and should give you peace of mind. It is a good idea to make sure that someone in your family understands this requirement so that you can make sure your pet is cared for.
