Theeson needs your help

3440TheesonAlfiecollage2 trimmedEmergency arrival in GRRMF and we need you!

Theeson sustained multiple pelvis fractures, an additional fracture at the acetabulum (where the femur meets the pelvis) and multiple metatarsal breaks when he was pinned between a car wheel and garage door. This 5 year old sweet golden boy needs a second chance to live, surviving a frightening and extremely painful event and we will not let him down.

As a financial caregiver you will be empowered to make certain he can receive that chance. We have a current estimate of $5000-$6000 for his care including comfort medication, boarding, surgery and rehabilitation. This expense will drain our medical fund significantly however we must ensure this boy gets a solid chance at a happy golden life. Sadly he is also heartworm positive.

Update August 27th:

Theeson update: He had a good night and our wonderful vets and vet techs are keeping him calm and comfortable with constant monitoring to control his movement. You know that golden spirit! They love people who love them and want to wag that tail and wiggle that body. With the multiple fractures, they have their hands full to keep this sweetest of boys calm. His day has been quiet and is stable and comfortable.

We so want to thank you for your donations and truly appreciate any size donation to help us cover the care we know this boy will need. So far this evening, you helped us raise $3000 towards our $6000 goal. Share Theeson’s web link http://www.grrmf.org/news/theeson-needs-help/ with friends. He needs everyone’s help to have a happy golden life of waggy tail times!

Special thanks and grateful kisses from Theeson and GRRMF to his life savers at Pine Ridge Pet Clinic (and special new best friend and his photographer Brittany), our awesome GRRMF transporters Jack, Cynthia and Barbara who dropped everything to jump in their cars and gently transport him from our vet Sand Lake Animal Clinic to our emergency vet clinic, Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Care Center this afternoon for his continued comfort and care and preparation for surgery on Monday.

More updates to be posted when more information is known.

Update August 29th:

Today was Theeson’s lucky day. The vet decided to hold off on his surgery. He has ordered more x-rays to see if there has been any further shifting of his left ilium (for us non-medical folks that is the large broad bone forming the upper part of each half of his pelvis). If the bone has NOT shifted, the vet said the surgery is not necessarily going to improve the outcome. He will heal and but will be on “activity restriction” while he does! The good news is that Theeson is stable, he’s eating and he is able to move on his own if given time and a little space. He is resting comfortably and that’s the ticket on pelvis injuries.
Talk about one lucky dog, but Theeson is not out of the woods just yet. We at GRRMF, along with the wonderful vets and their staff, are waiting the results of the x-rays. With or without surgery Theeson’s journey towards recovery is just starting, there will be more x-rays, medications, and re-habilitation.
Through your charitable donations, we have reached $4518.90 toward all of Theeson’s medical bills. Please continue to share his story and link: http://www.grrmf.org/news/theeson-needs-help/
to help us in reaching his goal.

Update August 30th:

Theeson is beating the odds!  Once his outlook was bleak, but as the days go by, this boy is quite the fighter.  The vet is still keeping Theeson under close eye, but today he went outside, using a sling for support, he was able to do his business!  This is such a big step forward for Theeson and the vets, staff and of course we at GRRMF were elated at his progress.  When in his bed Theeson is quiet and not moving around much. The vet is keeping him on pain medication and scheduling his next round of X-rays for Wednesday or Thursday to see if the bones are shifting in his pelvis.

Of course, remember this is not Theeson’s only problem, he is also heartworm positive!  His long journey to complete health is just beginning.  We know he is a fighter and with your donations for his medical treatments he will survive.  He will be that sweet and wonderful dog all the vets and their staff say is just waiting to get healthy.

We at GRRMF can’t thank you enough and please continue to share his story and link:  http://www.grrmf.org/news/theeson-needs-help/ to help us in reaching his goal.

Update August 31st:

The results are in on the X-rays for Theeson, this boy is doing wonders. There has been virtually no movement in the bones in his pelvis! The vet has determined that no surgery is the best medicine for Theeson, if he can stay quiet. He again was able to go outside, and do his business, with a sling. This is the advantage of using the specialists GRRMF has looking after him rather than a general vet. With detailed care instructions, the vet is willing to let Theeson go to a local foster that can handle this type of care, with another round of X-rays in about 5 weeks.

Now the hard part, Theeson as you remember, has heartworms. He cannot have the normal treatment we would usually give a heartworm positive dog due to his slight regurgitation. The vets are determining what treatment would be compatible with Theeson and the medication he is presently taking. All this is good news for Theeson and also good news for our donations. We have raised, through you, our Theeson supporters, $4748.90 as of this afternoon.
