2016 Year in Review

2016 Year in Review

2016 year in reviewWhat another amazing year for GRRMF as we celebrated our 25th year in rescue! We saved 137 goldens and thirty percent of those lives saved were golden blends. Overall 12 major medical dogs needed extensive surgery, 53 were spayed/neutered and 8 required four-month heartworm treatment. We also saved the lives of 2 pregnant moms with 15 puppies born in rescue. Your generous contributions to the medical care of these special needs dogs led to their returned health and happiness in their forever homes.

The ages of the 2016 arrivals varied with 23% under 1 year of age, 44% between the ages of 1 and 7 and 33% were precious old gold 8 years and older. We are especially proud that we do not turn away goldens based on age and that we successfully adopt even elderly goldens.

The mid-Florida streets and highways were filled with our wonderful volunteer team of transporters who with love and care provided taxi service throughout the year. They safely moved dogs from shelters or owner surrender homes to our intake vets, foster homes and to and from mulitiple vet appointments. Their commitment for 2016 totaled 325 trips requiring 496 drivers to achieve this important task! They also found time to help the Humane Society on the west coast to transport 30 puppies, requiring 8 transporters to meet the requirements of the long journey and puppy volume.  Wow!

This is only one example of our 200+ strong volunteer team who mobilized forces to perform daily interventions to give these dogs a new life. The dedication of our GRRMF Village and the miracles they perform every day are truly amazing. Each sacrifices time with their families to make a difference. Not a single person draws a salary from GRRMF; all work efforts are donated.

Our greatest asset is truly our volunteers, for without them nothing would be possible!
