Tigger, age 6, came to us from a shelter. He was very sick with upper respiratory, ear and eye infections and spent quite a while under close supervision at our veterinarian’s. When he came to foster mom Char’s house, he weighed only 50 lbs, in a frame that should be 70 lbs or so. He is a tall boy and was nothing but skin and bones.

Tigger was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which is very common in goldens. He is now on a daily inexpensive medication to keep his thyroid levels normal. He also had several lumps removed, including a tumor on his toe that may have been melanoma. It’s a skin cancer that is very treatable. We removed the lump and the surgery was successful. He has no restrictions or after-effects from the surgery.

So, what about his personality? Tigger is very gentle and happy. He loves getting attention from his humans – something he didn’t get much of for the first half of his life – and will nudge you for petting but will also lay down when told. He does not counter surf but will scout out wastebaskets looking for his favorite transgression … paper towels. His foster mom just trained herself not to leave paper towels within his reach, and all is well.

He loves people - when he goes to the doggie park he visits all the humans and pretty much ignores the dogs. He is very good with the other dogs in his foster home and occasionally will play – especially if he can entice someone into a game of tug-o-war – but is also a little intimidated by overly exuberant play and is submissive. He also loves to chew on a good bone now and then. He’s not prone to getting on furniture or beds.

Tigger loves going for walks but he does pull on leash. He also enjoys car rides, even if it means a trip to the vet – he is a great patient and doesn’t make a fuss over ear care, nail clipping or baths.

Tigger is just an all-around great dog who is looking for someone to spend the rest of his life with. He is calm and quiet and very easygoing. He is a gentle giant who just wants to be loved.
