Nine year old Killian came to GRRMF because of a bad stroke of luck.
His owner’s fiancé was in a terrible accident. She is recuperating, but is unsteady on her feet and her recovery will take a while. Because it’s dangerous for a dog to be underfoot, her owner made the very difficult decision to give him up so he could concentrate fully on helping his fiancé recuperate.
Killian made the transition very well. He was a little nervous about being left alone at first and cried when his foster family would leave. Sometimes he would counter surf. But, other than that, he is a perfect gentleman in the house. His foster family knows to remove any food items from counters so he is never rewarded for “looking around”. He is perfectly housebroken and doesn’t chew on any inappropriate items. Sometimes he’s a little rough on the plush toys, but he loves kong toys and will chew them for hours.
For an older guy, Killian is very young at heart! He loves life and is a happy companion. Killian enjoys walks and is good on leash. He’s also a great one for a ride in the car. He has a good amount of energy for a dog his age, but he likes to relax as well. He’s not “over the top” at all. Killian gets along well with his canine foster brothers, too. Killian has no health issues, and is at a lean and fit weight of 60 pounds. He was shaved, but his fur is soft and growing in nicely.
