Poor Clotiel, approximately 5 years old, was having more than just a bad hair day when she was picked up from her previous home. She was having a bad life. She had been left home alone for weeks on end, with a young relative who lived more than an hour away to come when she could to care for her. She was so filthy and matted that she had to be shaved down. Not a happy time for a beautiful girl with a soft and silky coat, which is just now growing back from the shaving.

She was extremely overweight too, weighing 108 lbs. She is now around 72 lbs. She was put on thyroid medication and a diet. As she lost weight, Clotiel became more mobile and we soon discovered a fun-loving ball chaser! It was then that we noticed some impairment in her peripheral vision – although she loved fetching, she seemed to lose sight of the tennis ball if it was thrown too far. That also explained what we initially thought was hand shyness. She would cower a little if a human went to touch her from the side or above her head.  She also startled if another dog accidently stepped on her while she's laying down. So, we determined that Clotiel’s eyesight leaves a little to be desired. She doesn’t let that slow her down, and loves her new ball that makes noise as it moves, so she can track it easily. Life is all about fun for this pretty girl, and we’re ensuring that she has plenty of it to make up for her earlier life.

flowerClotiel has a history of seizures, which are controlled by medication. She hasn’t suffered a seizure in many months, and those she did have were very mild. She will need to be on anti-seizure medication for the rest of her life to keep them under control. It’s inexpensive and not difficult to administer.

Even after all she’s been through, Clotiel never fails to bring a smile to your face. She loves to balance toys on her nose or on the top of her head and will stay completely still until you release her – then she’ll flip it up and catch it in her mouth. Good, girl, Clotiel!! She gets along great with other dogs and is never aggressive or testy. She’ll let them take toys out of her mouth – even her prized special ball that makes noise so that she can follow it when fetching! She isn’t a counter surfer, doesn’t get on the furniture and is completely housetrained. She loves car rides and is pretty good on leash, too.

Clotiel is a sweet girl who deserves a chance for a happy life

Ready for fun? Clotiel is!

But what really gets Clotiel going, more than anything, is to be loved on and told what a good girl she is – She’ll melt in your arms, and she’ll even “smile” – literally, she will pull her jowls up and smile at you – a nearly human reaction to the joy that she is feeling. She is so cute, her foster mom says she’ll melt even the coldest of hearts.

Clotiel needs a special home that is willing to ensure she gets her medications and isn’t put off by her visual limitations – she gets around just fine, to her these aren’t impairments at all, she compensates quite nicely. She also needs a home where she’ll get to have a lot of love and a lot of FUN – because that’s what this gal thrives on!

Won’t you give Clotiel a chance to have the kind of life that every golden retriever deserves?
