Update 1-7-08
Casey is doing great on her new diet. She is even sporting some tail feathers now. Here, Casey enjoys her pal, Jacob! |
Update 11/25/07
We have great news about Casey. The foods she is allergic to have been eliminated from her diet and she is doing very well now. She is being treated holistically with some herbs to help her itching and her skin is no longer so warm and prickly.
She is a great cuddler at night in bed and a wonderful walker who does not pull but walks sweetly beside you. She likes both dogs and cats and has a playful side to her that you would not expect in a seven year old dog. She is small and sweet and just needs someone who can keep her on her diet.
She does seem to have an allergy to carpeting so a home with mostly tile will benefit her greatly.
If you would like to add a sweet and loving girl to your household, consider Casey! |

At 7 years young, Casey found herself in a bad way, when her owner died suddenly and she was taken to a veterinarian to be euthanized. Luckily, the vet called GRRMF, and we brought her into our program.
That was a lucky day – for both of us, as Casey is a wonderful golden retriever. She is petite, at just 50 pounds, and is very sweet and affectionate. She is well-behaved, gets along great with other dogs and cats and is typically found walking around with a ball in her mouth. Yep, typical golden, all right!

Her only “issue” is that she has allergies, which have resulted in hair loss. She still itches a lot, but we've started her on a special hypoallergenic diet with lots of supplements to help improve her skin and coat. We're seeing slow but steady improvement, but it's going to take a while for her fur to grow back in.
In spite of her condition, Casey is a happy, sunny-side-up kind of girl. She acts much younger than her 7 years and is very playful, keeping her foster folks laughing at her antics. Her favorite pastime is chasing balls, which she will willingly give up so that you can keep the game going.

| She is curious about the cats, but doesn't bug them or chase them. She has one fetish, which is to chew any kind of tissue that might be found in a wastebasket or, perhaps, on a roll within easy reach. Her foster folks keep things like toilet tissue and paper towels out of her reach and have learned to keep wastebaskets covered. Problem solved!
She is crate trained and her foster folks have yet to hear her bark. She also hasn't shown an interest in getting on the furniture, although the other dogs in her home do. She is completely potty trained and has great house manners. |

We'll be looking for a special home for Casey once she recovers from her current skin flare-up. Her new family MUST be willing and committed to keep her on the food and supplement regimen that we've started her on,
to keep the positive steps she's taken on track.
