Caesar

All hail King Caesar! This 7-year-old sweetheart came to GRRMF when his owner could no longer afford him. You see, Caesar has a seizure disorder (quite a tongue-twister, isn’t it?), and when his owner stopped giving him his meds, he naturally began having seizures again. So GRRMF took him in, had his levels tested and started him back on the correct dosage of medication. He has been completely seizure free, and in fact, shows zero signs of any type of disability. His foster mom lives near the Gulf of Mexico and has become fond of saying, “Caesar has seizures down by the seashore”! Well, that’s not entirely true, since he doesn’t have seizures anymore, but he seems to love hearing it anyway!

Epilepsy in dogs is the same as in humans – it is simply a problem caused when the body does not produce enough of a certain chemical, which results in seizures. And like people with this condition, all Caesar needs is a daily medication called phenobarbitol, and he’s perfectly normal. He has no restrictions on activity or lifestyle whatsoever.

When he came in, Caesar was sporting some skin issues (likely from poor-quality food and possibly a reaction to all the plants blooming right now) and several extra pounds from lack of exercise. We’ve started him on a premium quality kibble with green beans and supplements for skin and coat, along with an exercise program of daily walks and play in the yard, and he’s already improving.

His personality? Well, the terms “Velcro” and “sweet as sugar” definitely apply to Caesar! His temperament and disposition are stellar. He LOVES getting attention from his humans and will follow you everywhere. He is very calm and mellow and just wants to be near you, yet he is also playful with others of his own kind. He is in a foster home with other canines and gets along great with all of them. He likes to play tug with them and readily shares his toys with others.

Caesar likes to snuggle and will get on the couch with you if you’ll let him. He doesn’t counter-surf or chew on things that aren’t his. He is completely housebroken and has wonderful house manners. He shows no reaction to thunderstorms. He also walks well on leash, which is good because he loves going for walks and they’re going to help him lose those unwanted extra pounds. He likes a good car ride whenever he can get one, and he knows the basic commands like sit and down. He also will sit and speak for a treat, which he takes very nicely. Another nice bonus is that Caesar is very good about bathing and grooming sessions, tolerating all very well and with good cheer.

We’re looking for a very special home for this wonderful and handsome golden boy. We know that somewhere out there, someone is waiting for a sweet, loving and mellow golden companion like Caesar and won’t let a simple seizure disorder keep them from loving this boy who deserves a chance to have a home all his own.
